The annual fashion event is back just in time for Ramadan’s fashion-forward Iftar and Ghabqa gatherings. Harvey Nichols Kuwait held its highly-anticipated kaftan event, at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuwait at Burj Alshaya, featuring sought-after bespoke kaftan pieces by local and regional designers. Reinforcing its commitment to promoting local and regional talent for the 5th year in a row, the VIP customer, media and influencer event featured collections from 17 designers. Dalal Al-Doub, Dana Tuwairish and many other local influencers made a presence to this event.

 

This year saw the designers experiment with textures, prints and stitching patterns in their own unique way allowing women in Kuwait to rediscover their personality and sensuality through the kaftan. From the first look at the collection, you will notice that it personifies elegance, as it glows in soft, delicate pastel tones, and with its clean, smooth tailoring that gives it a distinctive royal touch.

These designs were inspired by the elegance of the princesses of the Greeks and the Romans, focusing on dense fabric and tasteful use of motifs and embroidery executed in a high-quality manner at the shoulders and chest, sometimes reaching the waist.

The collars are varied, but they are all high and discreet, the most beautiful of which is the round collar with a large flared hem decorated with glittering sequins in silver, and the collar comes with horizontal crystal embroideries hanging down the neck from the backside.

Remarkably, in this collection, we do not see a clear focus on the waist, but rather streamlined designs made from innovative cuts with embroidery depending on the density of the details added to the soft fabric.

As for the most beautiful look in this collection, it is undoubtedly the straight abaya in sky blue, topped by a long royal cap with a collar of a pale pink color and elegant embroidery at the shoulders.

Loodyana debuts with evening gowns in its Spring 2018 collection.

Abeer Saleh, the creative mind behind the Saudi fashion brand Loodyana has showcased luxurious jalabiyas and modest sartorial designs in her previous collections. Established in 2001, Loodyana is a pioneering brand of modest fashion in the gulf. It was created in response to the choices and needs of the women in gulf; offering a collection of evening dresses with delicate designs, modern embroidery, and simple feminine designs.

 

“In Loodyana, we are keen to meet the needs of women belonging to different age groups and provide suitable attire for all occasions.”

In her conversation with Vogue Arabia, Abeer Saleh shares the brand’s journey. “We started designing abayas and Jalabiyas and then moved on to designing evening dresses in recent years. Our designs were met with a welcoming response by the women in the gulf region” says Abeer.

 

The Loodyana brand launched its wedding dress designs in the spring of 2018 at exclusive stores of Rubaiyat, which were tailored to suit the look and style of the Saudi women, such as the open shoulder and the back gown that runs along with the dress. In addition to Manual embroidery that decorates the designs, continues designer Abeer, ’We take into account the accuracy in choosing fabrics and the implementation of the details of the designs, to provide what befits the taste of women in the Gulf. We have also chosen soft neutral colors because they complement the skin tones in the Middle East.’

 

This was not the first collaboration of the young Saudi designer with the luxury department store chain. Loodyana showcased its collection in Ramadan 2017 at the Rubaiyat stores exclusively, and Lug revealed future plans after the success of this cooperation, saying: “We aspire to expand our niche to providing wedding dresses soon.”
